While noble squires eagerly mimic their knightly idols, princesses behind castle walls obey the strict rules of their governesses. Girls and boys’ pastimes are simple: marbles instead of video games, hobbyhorses instead of skateboards. Only a few learn to read and write. Everything is determined by gender, social class, and family… The 2028 Bavarian State Exhibition will offer a vivid portrayal of childhood in the Middle Ages and will tell how little ones grew up. A twofold spectacle: In the exhibition, immersive media experiences complement precious original artifacts. Outside, a tent city invites both children and adults to play games and go on adventures.
